This tube looks big in the video almost like a 3″. But it is only 1.75″ OD with a .120″ wall thickness. It is made from steel, 4130 steel to be exact. I am parting it with a parting blade and for the oil I use wd40 or what seems to work better is Tap Magic (i’m not an expert so I don’t know why). I am also using the steady rest because there is no way to do this without it it. Running the speed slow because the whole things looks unsafe lol.

Everything done on a mini lathe takes forever, just to part one of these can take 6 min or longer. You always see people speed up their videos because those little parts take forever to make on mini lathe. Why is that? Well because there is so much flex in the bed and carriage you have to take light cuts for everything. So even your rough cuts are light cuts. in steel forget about cutting .020 pass you will be able to cut .005. Yes you can do very accurate work but if you have to cut parts down from large sizes it is very tedious on a mini lathe because you can’t take large cuts. To turn a 1.5 diameter bar to 1.25 could easily take 1/2 hour.
