Butt fusion welding – thin sheet mild steel (Panel Beating) [v2.0]
An instructional demonstration, at a beginners level, of the butt fusion welding of 1 mm and 0.8 mm sheet mild steel using oxyacetylene with and without filler rod. The demonstration covers flame adjustment, tacking methods, torch angles and sequencing. The demonstration concludes with examples and causes of several common faults that may occur during the learning process. These include a degree of penetration, build-up, craters, pin holes and undercutting.
